About SEMAD Hygiene

We have recognised the need and committed to partnering with the right suppliers, non-governmental organizations who meet the environmental standards or are working towards these standards as laid down by the IFRS.

In developing our ESG strategy we at Semad Hygiene have placed a major focus on our social responsibility. While we are a relatively small operation, we recognise that we can still play a significant role.

  • We offer casual work to Homeless people whenever possible.
  • We provide work experience for less abled young adults from St Michaels house.
  • 50% of our ownership and 40% of our staff are female.

Mental Health

  • We recognise we have a responsibility to help mitigate burnout and stress with mental health and wellbeing of employees forming the measurable foundation of the ‘S’ within ESG.
  • We see it as the number 1 priority for ESG.
  • We also see wellbeing as an overarching output or result, from a range of important inputs, not as a subset of health and safety inputs.
  • We have realised that the mental wellbeing of our staff has a direct and visible impact on productivity and performance.
  • We support the models of Oxford University Wellbeing Research Centre and Indeed Key indicators for wellbeing/happiness at work
  • We have engaged the services of Stephen McDonald( The Happiness Physio - Speaker, Management and Well-being Trainer ) in the event that any staff member requires one to one advice.

Governance:

We are a non-governmental organisation, simply put we are a group of people who are passionate about what we do in trying to make a difference to help our stakeholders, employees, customers and our community.

· The vast majority of our polythene bags are already made from recycled plastic, and we are working towards converting those that aren't.

· We were first to market with a range of reusable gloves made in part from recycled plastic bottles (the Polyflex Eco range) and are excited to launch a new addition later this year.

· We have pioneered the switch from plastic to paper stemmed cotton buds, being the first in the market to do so in 2016.

· Also first to UK market, was our paper industrial glove bundle bands, a method we are now working to package all of our applicable industrial gloves in.

· Where gloves need to be single-use for infection control purposes, we offer a world-first solution to reduce glove waste and excess packaging with our SafeDon range.

· We are working tirelessly to implement at least 30% recycled content to any plastic packaging, and even help third parties to use recycled content in their products by sending our 'Fusion' offcuts to car manufacturers to be used in dashboards.
